As the 2023 Empire-Pass Football League inches closer to the final weeks, the battle for top three is becoming more fierce.
While some teams are catching up, others are dropping further on the league table.
Match week six produced some stunning results, one of such is the goalless draw between Empire FC and Emirate FC.
Empire FC earn accolades from many followers of the league following their robust performance against Tbantin FC a week ago. Returning from that performance, many expected Empire FC to come out guns-blazing against their opponents as asserted by Coach Gbeminiyi after their game against Tbantin FC.
But that wasn’t the case as Emirate FC matched Empire FC man for man, and tactics for tactics for the entire ninety minutes, leading to a barren draw.
Meanwhile, PASS FA secured a morale boosting victory against 4th place Salini FC to boost their chance of finishing among the top three.
Two goals in first half and one in the second half sealed Pass FA three points.
In other games played over the weekend, Hybrid FC thumped Sansiro FC 3-2 to consolidate their position on the log, and enhance their chances of not finishing bottom of the league table.
Sunday’s matches were characterized with a mixture of drama and excitement as BOB FC held AlBaayaniy FC to a 1-1 draw, while Olute FC almost came back from 4-1 to restore parity, but had no time to complete the comeback in the seven goals thriller.
BOB FC drew the first blood in the 15th minute through their winger, Bunmi, who scored from a set piece. AlBaayaniy FC, laboured to draw the game when Chibuike pounced on a rebound to give the number two team on the log an equalizer.
Xavi had taken a free kick for AlBaayaniy FC, but BOB FC’s goalkeeper failed to hold on to the ball, Chibuike lashed on to the ball and straight into the net, the ball went.
The result placed both AlBaayaniy FC and BOB FC in second and third on the log respectively.
In the final game of match week six, league leaders, Tbantin FC, thought they were on a roller-coaster after coming back from one goal down to leading Olute FC 4-1, but in a twist of event, Olute FC, scored two additional goals, and were gunning for a leveller but couldn’t complete the comeback before the final whistle.
