The Federal Government has accepted the resignation of Hajiya Naja’atu Bala Mohammed as a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Her resignation as a Commissioner was confirmed last night by sources in the Police Affairs Ministry.

She was representing the Northwestern zone in the commission.

According to sources, the ministry, the Federal Government conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari’s appreciation to the commissioner for her service to the government and Nigerians.

Naja’atu Mohammad’s resignation was not unconnected to her endorsement of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

She visited Atiku at his residence on Sunday. Dino Melaye, a spokesman of Atiku’s campaign, was among those who received Muhammad at the residence of the former vice president.

I Dumped APC Because Tinubu Can’t Think Straight – Naja’atu Bala

The former director, who hails from Kano Municipal Local Government Area, was a former lead campaigner of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She however said she decided to stop supporting Tinubu because he “hardly thinks straight.”
In her words, “Yes, I am no longer supporting him (Tinubu); that is why I left the party. A lot has changed. He can hardly think straight. I am very sure of that. You can see his clips.

“I have transcended religious, tribal, or regional sentiments, so I can’t afford to look at things with that narrow premise. I think it is not only irresponsible, it is criminal because we have succeeded in dividing this country for selfish reasons. We can’t continue like that. We need to move our country forward. That is my reason. I have nothing personal against anyone.”

In a letter dated January 19, 2023, addressed to the APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and seen by CityNews, the former director of the APC campaign stated she left because of recent developments in the country’s political and democratic space.

PYC Calls For Naja’atu Bala’s Resignation From PSC In 2019 Over Anti-Buhari Comment

In June 2019, The Progressive Youth for Change (PYC), a youth wing of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), called for the resignation of Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed as a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC) over alleged unguarded utterances against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The National Coordinator of PYC, Nazir Galadanchi said this while addressing a press conference in Abuja.

He said, “Her utterances, in a going type of way, clearly show that she has become a willing tool in the hands of the opposition parties.”

Galadanchi who urged her to resign her appointment noted that her continued stay undermines the successes recorded by the Nigerian Police.

“As a serving Federal Commissioner of the Police Service Commission, Hajia Najatu Muhammad had also not comported herself as well,” he added.
