AFCON 2021Qualifiers: Kelechi Iheanacho Listed In Super Eagles Squad
Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and Cyriel Dessers have been listed in Super Eagles squad for this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone, Sports Extra has gathered.
The three-time African champions currently lead Group L after wins over Benin Republic and Lesotho in November.
Iheanacho, 23, was last invited to the Eagles squad for an international friendly against Ukraine on September 10 though he didn’t feature in the encounter.
The former Manchester City forward has been the Eagles’ most prolific player this season for Leicester City scoring eight goals and providing four in 16 games across all competitions.
Also listed for the double-header against the Leone Stars are Spanish based duo Samuel Chukwueze and Ramon Azeez. Leon Balogun who recently joined Wigan in the English Championship from Brighton is also back in the squad after missing the last two games.
Young Fortuna Düsseldorf goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Joe Aribo of Glasgow Rangers, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi are also listed for the game.
Rohr also opted for the core of the squad which finished third at the 2019 Africa Nations Cup in Egypt including the Italy-based duo William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Oghenekaro Etebo and Moses Simon.
The two countries have met at senior international level 14 times and Nigeria have won nine drawing three and losing two.
