President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate was declared winner of the February 25th Presidential election by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.
Tinubu defeated a former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, Kwankwaso of the NNPP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Buhari in a statement released on his verified social media handle said he will now work with Tinubu and his team to ensure an orderly handover and smooth transition of power.
The president whose tenure lapsed by May 29, acknowledged that there were lapses in the just concluded election but also stated that the identified itches cannot undermine the fairness of the 2023 election.
He urged any political party or opposition who is not satisfied with the process to come forward with evidence or accept the result in good faith and move forward.
He also advised that aggrieved politicians should take their grievances to the court and not the street.
President Muhammadu Buhari emerged as Nigeria’s President after he defeated an incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the 2015 poll.
He also won a second term after he was re-elected in 2019.
