Ex-Ghanaian International, Asamoah Gyan, while speaking about his late teammate, Christian Atsu, said the deceased trusted him so well in their playing days.
Atsu died after he was trapped for weeks under the rumbles following the earthquake that devastated the European country on February 6th, 2023.
And paying tribute to his former teammate, Gyan said, “He was a big guy, one of the guys that are very close to my heart. Christian, was very, very decent, he’s someone you can’t say anything bad about, and that’s how close he was.
Gyan while recounting their time together in the Ghana Black Star, said Christian would always beg him to be on the pitch.
In his words, “I remember our time, he would tell me, Asamoah, you have to be on the pitch, if not we’ll lose.”
The late Black Star winger played sixty-five times for Ghana and was voted player of the tournament at the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“He’s a loveable person, everybody loves him, quite unfortunate he dies like this. My heart is broken!”, Asamoah Gyan added.
He had played for three English Premier League clubs, Everton, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur before joining Turkish Hatayspor where he scored a goal on the eve of the earthquake that claimed his life.
Atsu was born in 1992 and died in February 2023.
