Popular Nollywood actor, Daniel Etim-Effiong has urged young Nigerians aspiring to get married not to be carried away by tons of glossy pictures of ‘perfect’ couples on social media.

Daniel got married to his wife, Toyosi nee Philips, whom she met on social media in November 2017.

The marriage has produced two beautiful kids and while sharing their thoughts on a session tagged ‘My Marriage’, the lovely couple shared their two cents on marriage and advised younger men and women to understand that marriage requires lots of background work to make it look good and attractive to outsiders.

When asked to advise young people about marriage, given their success so far, Danial said, “Don’t be fooled by the perfect pictures you see on Instagram, because lots of work goes into building a home, hence It’s not all rosy.”
Buttressing her husband’s point, Toyosi advised that couples must be working together in building a home, noting that it is not the job of a person.

She said, “All hands on deck, one person cannot be building while the other person is watching or even worse, tearing down.

The mother of two then reiterated the essence of a three-stranded cord, the couple and God.

In her words, “God has to be at the centre because “a three-strand cord is not easily broken, both parties must be in ‘Build Mode’; foundation first and then one room after the other. Also.”

On what the couple have learnt in the course of their five years marriage, Daniel said, he’s learnt to listen more than to assume, “I’ve learnt to be more patient and to hear what is being said, not what I think is being said”, while Toyosi asserted that she has learnt to compromise and understand that she cannot and shouldn’t have my way all the time. Meaning she can’t always have things her way at all times.

Speaking on their best experiences so far, both Daniel and Toyosi gush about having someone who has their best interests at heart with Daniel going further to state that “I have a beautiful, strong, and godly woman going through life with me.”
