Doping | Nigerian Athlete, Divine Oduduru, Slammed With Indefinite Suspension By AIU

Divine Oduduru, the Nigerian national record-holder in 200 metres, has been suspended indefinitely by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating two anti-doping policies.

This development is the latest in Nigeria’s low moments in track and field, coming about a year after the 11-year ban imposed on former national team captain Blessing Okagbare.

The AIU is linking Oduduru to Okagbare’s misdemeanour, which was said to have occurred just before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, with more details yet to be unravelled.

Oduduru has a personal best of 9.86 seconds in the 100 metres and 19.73 seconds in the 200 metres.

He was disqualified in the 100m heats in Tokyo, where he also reached the 200m semi-finals.

Oduduru, who now stands the risk of being banned for six years, has been charged with “the possession and/or use or attempted use of multiple prohibited substances” by the disciplinary arm of the world athletics governing body, World Athletics, AIU.
