Oyo-Ita (the first defendant), alongside her special assistants, Ugbong Effiok (seventh defendant), and Garba Umar (fourth defendant) are facing criminal prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on 18 counts charges bordering on misappropriation, official corruption, money laundering, and criminal diversion of funds to the tune of over three billion naira (N3 billion).
Other defendants in the case include: Frontline Ace Global Services Limited, Asanaya Projects Limited, Slopes International Limited, U and U Global Services Ltd, Prince Mega Logistics Ltd, and Good Deal Investments.
The witness told the court that the former Head of Service, Winifred, used Slopes International Limited and Good Deal Investments Limited-fifth and sixth defendants respectively, to fraudulently award government contracts to herself through the fourth defendant, Garba Umar.
Hamma Bello, highlighted the deals as follows:
The first entry transaction of Good Deal Investment Limited, (the company which according to the witness was incorporated by Garba Umar with the full knowledge Oyo-Ita) was in February 2019 and it shows that fourty two million, seven hundred and fourty-eight thousand, two hundred and one Naira, fourty-seven kobo (N42,748, 201.47) was paid into the company’s Zenith Bank account.

The witness continues, “Upon interviewing the fourth defendant (Umar), he admitted that he was also a contractor and had paid the first defendant (Winifred Oyo-Ita) on several occasions from the proceeds of the transactions.
A transfer of Twenty million, two hundred and two thousand, one hundred and fourty-two naira (N20, 202, 142) was made in the name of Ibrahim Madu to the Zenith Bank account of Asanaya Projects Limited, another company registered with the knowledge of the first defendant, Oyo-Ita.
The witness stated that the mandate card of the account bears the signature and photo of the seventh defendant, Effiok, and upon investigation, approvals were granted and payments made to the seventh defendant either through his personal account or to the account of the company.
“The seventh defendant confirmed that the first defendant was aware of, and benefitted on several occasions from the funds received”, the witness added.
Based on the witness accounts, the account of U and U Global Services Limited was also opened by Ugbong Effiok, the seventh defendant.
Hamma Bello asserted that several payments were made into U and U Global Limited account between 2015 and 2018 in form of Duty Tour Allowances, Esta codes, and payments from the federal government were also made directly to the U and U Global Limited account
The witness cited an instance where the account received N40, 313, 453. 58, On March 24, 2016, the payment according to Bello was from the federal government.
Hamma Bello also tenders “Exhibit O” which contains details of Fidelity Bank account of Prince Mega Logistics Ltd.

Titus Okure used to be a colleague of the seventh defendant in the Account Department.
He (the witness) also revealed that there were outward payments to beneficiaries named as follows: Ignom, Minaro Blessing, Winifred Oyo-Ita, Olarenwaju Godman Olushola and the seventh defendant is the sole signatory of this account.
After the hearing, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, adjourned the case till April 30, 2024.
The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress on Wednesday walk out from the minimum wage negotiation meeting after the Federal Government offered to pay N48,000, a figure far below the N615,00 the unions were demanding as the new national minimum wage.
After abandoning the session, the furious labour leaders summoned an emergency press conference where they vented their displeasure with the offer, describing it as ‘an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerian workers.’
This was the second time in two weeks that the negotiation had run into trouble. The last session, held on April 29, deadlocked after organised labour insisted on N615,000 minimum wage.
The Federal Government disagreed with labour’s demand, which it deemed unreasonable.
NLC-TUC MINIMUM WAGE BREAKDOWN
However, the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, explained that the amount was arrived at after analysing the current economic situation and the needs of an average Nigerian family of six.
Rationalising the N615,000 demand, the labour leader stated, “Living wage is such that will, at least, keep you alive. It is not a wage that will make you poorer and poorer. It is not a wage that will make you borrow to go to work. It is not a wage that will lead you to be in the hospital every day because of malnutrition. For that living wage, we have tried to look at N615,000.
“Let me give you a breakdown of how we arrived at that figure. We have housing and accommodation of N40,000. We asked for electricity of N20,000 — of course, that was before the current tariff increase. Nobody can spend this amount currently. We have a utility that is about N10,000. We looked at kerosene and gas, that is about N25,000 to N35,000.
“We looked at food for a family of six. That is about N9,000 in a day. For 30 days, that is about N270,000. Look at medical. With the N50,000 provided, there will be no surgery or whatever.
“For clothing, we looked at N20,000. For education, N50,000. I don’t know about those who tried to put their children in private schools, they will not be able to cope with this amount. We also have sanitation of N10,000.
“I think where we have another bulk of the money is transportation. This is because the workers stay on the fringes and because of the cost of petrol, which amounted to N110,000.
“That brought the whole living wage to N615,000, and I want anyone to subject this to further investigation and find out whether there will be any savings when you pay somebody at this rate,’’ the NLC president explained.
But speaking at the press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, hours after the stalemate, Ajaero disclosed that, in contrast to the N48,000 offer made by the Federal Government, the organised private sector proposed an initial offer of N54,000.
He blamed the government and the OPS for the breakdown in negotiation, saying, “Despite earnest efforts to reach an equitable agreement, the less than reasonable action of the government and the organised private sector has led to a breakdown in negotiations.”
He further said, “The Government’s proposal of a paltry N48,000 as the minimum wage not only insults the sensibilities of Nigerian workers but also falls significantly short of meeting our needs and aspirations.
“Though it is worth noting that even the least paid workers in the private sector receive N78,000 as clearly stated by the OPS, highlighting the stark disparity between the proposed minimum wage and prevailing standards further demonstrating the unwillingness of employers and the government to faithfully negotiate a fair national minimum wage for workers in Nigeria.’’
He accused the government of failing to provide data to support its offer, noting that this undermined the credibility of the negotiation.
“Furthermore, the government’s failure to provide substantiated data to support their offer exacerbates the situation. This lack of transparency and good faith undermines the credibility of the negotiation process and erodes trust between the parties involved.
“As representatives of Nigerian workers, we cannot in good conscience accept a wage proposal that would result in a reduction in income for federal-level workers who are already receiving N30,000 as mandated by law, augmented by Buhari’s (former President Muhammadu Buhari) 40 per cent peculiar allowance (N12,000) and the N35,000 wage award, totalling N77,000 only.
“Such a regressive step would undermine the economic well-being of workers and their families and is unacceptable in a national minimum wage fixing process.”
Labour justifies action
In conclusion, Ajaero noted that Labour had to walk out of the negotiation, but noted that the unions remained committed to fighting for the rights and interests of Nigerian workers.
“In the light of these developments, and to prevent the negotiation of a wage deduction, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have decided to walk out of the negotiation process.
“We remain committed to advocating for the rights and interests of Nigerian workers and will continue to engage in reasonable dialogue with the government if they show serious commitment to find a fair and sustainable resolution to this impasse,” he said.
He also called on the government to reconsider its position and come to the negotiation table with ‘clear hands that reflect the true value of the contributions made by Nigerian workers to the nation’s development and the objective socioeconomic realities that confront not just Nigerian workers but Nigerians today as a result of the policies of the Federal Government.’
He urged the government to work alongside Labour to finalise the proposed N615,000 minimum wage.
“Together, in a reasonable dialogue, we can work to give Nigerian workers a N615,000 National Minimum Wage as we proposed based on evidence and data.
“This will be in keeping with the pledge of the President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Tinubu’s pledge to ensure a living wage for Nigerian workers,” he submitted.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele on charges of illegal printing of naira notes.
He was arraigned on four counts before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court at Maitama in Abuja.

Also, the agency accused the former CBN governor of illegally approving the withdrawal of about N124.8 billion from the consolidated revenue fund.
But he pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before the trial judge, Maryann Anenih.
Thereafter, the prosecuting lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked for a date for trial.
However, the defence lawyer urged the court to grant Mr Emefiele bail pending the determination of the case.
Mr Emefiele has faced multiple corruption charges in Lagos and Abuja since his sack by President Bola Tinubu last June.
He was incarcerated for several months by the State Security Service (SSS) which subsequently transferred him to EFCC in Abuja
In the latest case, the prosecution said “Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, between the 19 October 2022 and 5 March 2023 in Abuja, knowingly disobeyed the direction of Section 19 of the CBN Act, 2007; by approving the printing of N375,520,000.00 pieces of colour swapped N1,000, at the total cost of N11,052, 068,062 without the recommendation of the Board of Central Bank and the strict approval of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria which conduct of yours caused injury to the public and you thereby committed an offence.”
In another count, the EFCC said “Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, between the 19 October 2022 and 5 March 2023 in Abuja, knowingly disobeyed the direction of Section 19 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, by approving the printing of 172,000,000 pieces of colour swapped N500 (Five Hundred Naira) Notes; at the total cost of N4, 471,066,040 without the recommendation of the Board of Central Bank and the strict approval of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria which conduct of yours caused injury to the public and you thereby committed an offence.”
The other counts read: “That you Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, between the 19th day of October 2022 and 5th March 2023 in Abuja, knowingly disobeyed the direction of Section 19 of the CBN Act, 2007, by approving the printing of 137,070,000 pieces of colour swapped N200 (Two Hundred Naira) Note…at the total cost of N3, 441, 005, 280 without the recommendation of the Board of Central Bank and the strict approval of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria which conduct of yours caused injury to the public and you thereby committed an offence.
“That you, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, on or about the 7th day of October 2020, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, knowingly disobeyed the direction of Section 80 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended);…by approving the withdrawal of the total sum of N124, 860, 227, 865.16 from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation in a manner not prescribed by the National Assembly, which conduct of yours caused injury to the public and you thereby committed an offence.”
The Coroner looking into the death of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known also as MohBad has finally discussed the long-awaited autopsy result conducted to determine the cause of death of the late singer.
The Autopsy result was interpreted by a Pathologist who conducted the autopsy.
According to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, the pathologist in charge told the coroner that the deceased’s body had decomposed by the time the test was conducted.
The pathologist revealed that due to the advanced decomposition of Mohbad’s body at the time of autopsy, determining the exact cause of death was not possible.
Addressing claims circulating about fresh blood found on Mohbad’s coffin, the pathologist clarified that the appearance of redness was due to a mixture of rainwater and soil during the exhumation process, rather than actual blood, adding that it rained a day before MohBad was exhumed.
He also dismissed speculations of MohBad being buried alive, affirming that he died before burial, whilst also refuting claims of possible strangulation through the examination of removed neck tissues.
The neck tissues would have revealed it, if the late singer was strangulated, but no appearance of such trauma occurred in the examined neck tissues.
NDLEA DIDN’T POISON MOHBAD
To exonerate the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) of any wrongdoings, the pathologist had samples of late Ilerioluwa Aloba’s liver and kidney displayed via a projector in the courtroom, confirming the absence of poisoning.
The NDLEA had been accused of poisoning the singer when it was alleged that he was arrested alongside a fellow singer during a night raid.
Naira Marley and Lagos socialite, Sam Larry were also allegedly accused of contributing to the untimely death of the 24-year-old pop singer.

Prior to being banned from Football Samson Siasia was one of Nigeria’s fine coaches in history, having guided the Flying Eagles (U-20) and the Olympic Eagles (U-23) nationals to silver at the 2005 World Cup and the men’s football event of the 2008 Olympic Games, also an applicant for the vacant Cameroon national team’s coaching job a few months before he was hammered by FIFA over allegation of bribery.
The former Super Eagles coach in a recent interview with Athlist has refuted the allegation of bribery stating that what transpired between him and his contact, who was identified as a match-fixer was an agreement to take up a coaching job in Australia.
According to Siasia, he never knew the man he was talking to is a match-fixer.
FIFA slammed Siasia for his alleged involvement in match-fixing in August 2019 but the 56-year-old, whose ban ends in a few months, whilst speaking to Athlist, narrated what really transpired between him and the match-fixer.
In his words, “I spoke with someone who was trying to hire me as a coach in Australia, that’s someone I didn’t know was a match-fixer.
“FIFA knew this guy, yet allow him to be around a FIFA tournament”, Siasia added.
The 1994 AFCON winner questioned the basis for his punishment saying, “It’s an allegation; they said bribery but shouldn’t bribery involve when money changes hands, are there any proof of money changing hands?” Siasia asked rhetorically and responded, “No, there were none.”
The Olympics silver medalist coach explained further that all he discussed with the guy was the terms of his proposed Australia coaching job and nothing else.
“We talked about how much salaries, transfers, bonuses, and sign-on fees were, and tha was all,” Siasia told Athlist sports during the interview.
Samson Siasia also accused the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of abandonment.
He said, “Nigeria abandoned me at that time of need; that’s my own take on how this thing played out,”
Due to lack of adequate finance, It took Siasia about 2-years to appeal the ban, and after doing so in June 2021 at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), he was able to secure a reduction of the suspension to five years and the cancellation of the additional fine of 50,000 Swiss francs ($54,000).

Stella Udeze, the Nollywood actress, is of the opinion that the act of tagging actresses as prostitutes is the reason behind many failed relationships and unhappy homes for female thespians.
Ms Stella said the issue of failed relationships isn’t the fault of the actresses but the prevalent perception of often unfairly labelling women in Nollywood as prostitutes.
Stella in a chat with Potpourri, stated that eighty percent of men in Nigeria hold the belief that being an actress equates to being a prostitute.
She said, “Eighty percent of men in Nigeria feel that being an actress makes you a Prostitute, this is the reason that some actresses don’t seem to have a happy relationship or a lasting marriage.”
Stella however urge men to understand that, though there are actresses with bad characters but not all. She advised me to learn to differentiate the good from the bad and not to generalize.

Leicester City have made their way into the Premier League winning automatic promotion from the Championship after Leeds United’s 4-0 loss to QPR.
Leicester City have made their way back to the top tier of English football after just a year in the Championship thanks to Leeds’ loss that gave the Foxes a four-point lead over Leeds with two match days left until the end of the regular season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Leicester had looked nearly certain to return to the top level when they opened up a 14-point lead over third place in February. Leicester’s nine-year Premier League stint was halted by relegation last season. However, they had a bad run of play that made them need to gain some crucial points towards the end of the season, and they watched that lead fast evaporate.

After visiting the premises on Monday, the commission (FCCPC) officials led by the Director for Surveillance and Investigation, Boladale Adeyinka, said the mission of the commission is in response to the viral video when Nigerians were allegedly being discriminated against and denied access into a supermarket located in Abuja.
Speaking at the end of the enforcement exercise, Adeyinka said, “The essence of the surveillance and investigation that we conducted today is to verify the allegations and the content of that viral video.
“Adeyinka continues by stating that the supermarket had opened for business and CCTV footage also shows that in the morning, two vehicles departed from these very premises allegedly containing the owner of the supermarket, whom we have been able to identify by name and we have her contact details.”
Mrs Adeyinka advised the owner in absentia to appear before the commission tribunal or the compound will remain sealed if she fails to attend to the summon which is a lawful inquiry.

Discussing abortion in a conservative environment like Nigeria is usually a sensitive topic, however, a Nollywood actress, Etinosa Idemudia has suggested that bearing a child into a family that can’t afford to cater for such a child should be considered a crime.
The actress said abortion should be an option for people to consider as the world is filled with hungry innocent children.
Speaking via her social media page, Etinosa asked rhetorically, is it not better for a woman to get rid of a pregnancy than to give birth to a child that will be subjected to long suffering?
She Said, “With all the hungry Innocent children who are suffering all around, are we still against abortion?”
Isn’t abortion better than life long suffering?, Idemudia added rhetorically.
Etinosa opines that individuals or couples who bore a child without a definite future aren’t disciplined.
In her words,”Why bring an innocent person to life, If your own future is not sure, the children never asked to be born into all this hardship.”
The ‘Washerman’ star actress continues, “You are not discipline enough to use condom, so in your selfishness you get your wife pregnant with the 5th child no house no tangible source of income.”
The Warri born actress concluded that any couple who gave birth to a child under such conditions should be penalized, adding that if she is such a child, her parents won’t be forgiven.
In her words,” Bringing that child into the world should be a crime and If I’m that child I’ll never forgive my parents.”

They have been given the opportunity to make an impact, to show their talents, and the coaches as well, kudos to them. Both the coaches and the athletes, they’ve done extremely well.
“And I also want to appreciate the US-Based athletes, their Schools and officials for not releasing them, because they [Foreign-based athletes] would have been the one representing us in Ghana. The interim coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Finidi , may be out of favour for the vacant position of the men’s national team head coach.
Despite the public endorsement by former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick, Finidi George seems out of the reckoning for the head coach of the Super Eagles.
A top official has stated three reasons the odds are heavily stacked against the Enyimba head coach.
According to the official, besides not processing the requisite coaching badges, Finidi did not pass his audition after he was handed temporary charge for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco last month.
The official stated, “He does not have UEFA Pro license, what he has is UEFA A license.
“His man-management during the matches in Morocco left a lot to be desired after he fell out with several of the players.
“He was also found wanting as per his decisions particularly the game against Mali when he made only two substitutions even with so many players on the bench, who did not play against Ghana.”
The former Ajax winger, who assisted Jose Peseiro at the recent 2023 AFCON, had been shortlisted by the NFF technical committee for further consideration by the Executive Committee who will meet again on Tuesday to deliberate on the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles.
A number of state FA chairmen carpeted Finidi as Eagles substantive coach after the friendlies in Morocco, where the Super Eagles beat Ghana 2-1 before they lost 2-0 to Mali.
