The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) recently announced the launch of a multipurpose National ID card that can serve the purpose of identity verification, payments, and even government services.
Additional information released by the NIMC reveals that the card will be enabled for all government intervention and services across multiple Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA). Among other capabilities and functionalities, it will also be enabled for the eNaira in compliance with the EMV operational and security standards.
Although NIMC has not categorically stated the date the card will be available to Nigerians, it has released the process of applying for it.
How to obtain the card
According to NIMC, Nigerians intending to apply for the card will go through the following process:
First, the person goes to the nearest bank or bank-approved center and makes a request for the payment card layered on identity.
The person provides his or her NIN for identity verification and proof of a minimum age of 18 years.
The bank sends the NIN to NIMC and receives relevant authorized identity data in the specified format.
The bank uses the verified identity data to securely prepare the standard EMV data for the card before getting it personalized and printed on by a partner bureau.
The bank then issues the finished card to the person who made the request it, now the cardholder.
Card expiry date
NIMC noted that while the payment feature “ATM card” part of the solution comes with the standard expiry date printed in front, the identity part on the back of the card will only have an issue date signified and no expiry date.
According to the Commission, when the payment feature of the card expires, the cardholder has 3 options with regard to the continued use of the card:
“Go to the bank and request a new payment card layered on identity, discarding the previous one.
“Continue to use the card only as a valid means of identification but not for payment – a new separate, standalone payment card is requested from the bank.
“Continue to use the card only as a valid means of identification without requesting a new payment card (especially for the unbanked persons).”
NIMC warned that the card will still function as an ATM card so it is advisable for users not to give out photocopies or scanned images of it, bearing their sensitive payment details, to unauthorized parties.
The Commission noted that while the user’s NIN is not visible on the card, it can be accessed by scanning the QR code on the card.

Ace Nigerian stand up comedian and Actor, Ayo Makun, known popularly as AY, has finally spoken on the speculations surrounding his twenty years marriage with his wife Mabel Makun.
A blogger, Gistlover, had sparked a firestorm with scandalous claims that Mabel had left her marital home, because of alleged infidelity on the part of the 30-Days In Atlanta actor and producer.
Following the allegation of infidelity, AY had received backlashes from his fans forcing him to speak about his troubled marriage.
Mr. Makun admitted that his friendship and marriage of twenty years with Mabel is slipping off his grasp, adding that neither he nor his wife is without fault.
He said, “It is one thing to watch my friendship and marriage of twenty years slip off my hands, but it’s another thing for the parties involved to understand how to appropriate blames in a space that is designed for most women to always play the victims and win.”
The actor added,” I can tell you for free that no one is completely innocent to cast stones.”
AY also issued a stern warning against digging deeper into their private matters to safeguard his teenage daughter, Michelle’s mental well-being, and shield her from potential harm, especially because of her presence on social media.
The comedian wrote, “My personality and ability simply confirm that i have reached that stage in my life where I can not be entertaining the public with deep personal family issues.”
AY added,” Not even when I have a grown-up daughter with access to social media, I must protect her mental health because of the things she sees online about her parents that she can’t be proud of. They just might be too much for her to handle.”
Ayo Makun stated that keeping quiet doesn’t implies he’s weak or incapable of dealing with issues but he’s logical enough to understand the difference between opinions, values, beliefs, and facts.
He acknowledged that he’s found himself doing some things that he is not proud of.
The Delta-born comedian concluded by stating that his painful truth will prevail over all the lies.
In his words, “My painful truth will eventually beat away all the lies, but I am loving the way that lies about me in all these blogs are traveling faster than the truth.”

Release: FCCPC Applauds NERC for Fines, Demands Action to Protect Consumers in New Electricity Regime
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) commends the recent enforcement action taken by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) against the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for violating the Supplementary Order to the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2024 for AEDC. This action includes a mandate for AEDC to reimburse all customers in Bands B, C, D, and E who were billed above the allowed tariff bands and to pay a fine of ₦200 million. It represents a crucial step towards upholding consumer rights and ensuring fairness within Nigeria’s electricity industry.
The FCCPC urges more robust and vigilant enforcement such as this, as well as greater transparency in billing and power supply, as a balance to the recently increased tariff for Band A customers.
NERC’s decision to penalise AEDC reinforces FCCPC’s strong advocacy for protecting consumers from unfair market practices, as mandated by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018. Notably, this action was taken within 48 hours of the introduction of a new tariff regime for Band A customers.
While NERC approved the tariff realignment and Service Delivery Commitments for Band A electricity customers to ensure the sustainability and viability of Distribution Companies (DisCos) and the entire electricity sector, we acknowledge the legitimate concerns raised by consumers. Many consumers have expressed fear that the likelihood of arbitrary estimated billing for unmetered Band A customers could lead to consumer abuse and dissatisfaction.
DisCos’ repeated failure to meet the minimum power supply hours for respective tariff bands and their failure over time to compensate consumers for service downtime have made consumer grievances worse.
To address these concerns and promote consumer welfare under the current service reflective tariff regime, FCCPC encourages NERC to mandate DisCos to meter all unmetered Band A customers within 60 days, thus ensuring accurate billing and protecting consumers from arbitrary estimations. In addition, we urge NERC to vigorously enforce the cap on estimated bills and ensure compliance with the required daily supply for respective tariff bands (A to E), thereby promoting fairness in billing practices.
The FCCPC is pleased with NERC’s recent Order to DisCos to automatically downgrade any Band A feeder that does not enjoy the minimum requirement of 20 hours per day power supply for seven consecutive days. While the Commission will closely monitor the implementation of this directive by all parties, in line with extant laws and an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NERC, we urge NERC to diligently enforce the proposed measures and collaborate with stakeholders to address consumer concerns, in order to foster a sustainable and consumer-friendly electricity market.
It is the Commission’s view that unless a consumer on Band B, C, D, or E is metered, the DisCo should not be allowed to migrate such a consumer to a higher tariff band to avoid any form of exploitation. This will also serve as an incentive for DisCos to meter consumers.
The Commission is confident that NERC will persist in imposing appropriate penalties on DisCos for violations, which will promote compliance and accountability in the electricity industry.
FCCPC reaffirms its commitment to protecting consumer interests and ensuring equitable practices within Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a directive to all Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria to compensate customers wrongly billed and make clarification on customers that are affected by the newly approved multi-year Tariff order.
The commission said in a statement released on Saturday as contained below:
PRESS RELEASE – 6 APRIL 2024
DIRECTIVE TO ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES ON IMPLEMENTATION OF THE APRIL 2024 SUPPLEMENTARY MULTI-YEAR TARIFF ORDER
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (“Commission”) has directed all Electricity Distribution Companies (“DisCos”) to provide as much clarity as possible to all affected customers.
The DisCos are hereby directed to implement the following updates:
1. All DisCos shall ensure that ONLY the newly approved Band A feeders listed in their April 2024 supplementary orders are maintained as band A for the purpose of vending to prepaid customers and billing for post paid customers on their networks.
2. All DisCos are required to immediately post on their websites the schedule of approved Band A feeders that have been affected by the rate review.
3. All DisCos shall set up a portal by 10th April 2024 on their website that allows all customers to check their current Bands by entering their meter or account numbers.
4. All customers wrongly billed at the new rate should be refunded through energy tokens no later than Thursday 11th April 2024, and file evidence of compliance with the Commission by 12th April 2024.
5. The Commission shall monitor compliance with the requirements listed above and shall continue to provide support to all stakeholders as required.
Signed
Management

It was the first time a Nigerian artiste would perform at the royal coronation and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Over 20000 people attended the Coronation concert, organized by the BBC, while, globally, over 18 million people viewed it.
A high point of her performance was the two ‘Bata’ (Talking drums) drummers who came to play beside her leaving the well-packed concert attendees screaming with Joy.
Tiwa, who thrilled the audience with her beautiful voice, rendered “Keys to the Kingdom,” a song she recorded with Mr. Eazi and featured on Beyoncé’s album “The Lion King’’ released in July 2019.

‘Keys to the Kingdom’, a song by Nigerian artists Mr. Eazi and Tiwa Savage, is one of 27 songs Beyonce did not sing but wrote and produced.

Ramadan is a yearly universal call to duty with reverence to Allah in a way that is beyond pretense according to Islamic beliefs. It is a veritable tool for change in life and style of living.
During the one-month fasting exercise, ‘the presence of the Almighty is felt effectively, the believers get closer to Him, and their supplications are accepted,” according to Sheik Akinwunmi.
Muslim faithful are expected to live consecrated life devoid of immorality or acts that can mar the closeness to Allah.
Having this at heart, many believers are of the opinion that sex shouldn’t be initiated between couples during the month of Ramadan.
However, the Chief Imam of Ilaro in Ogun State, Sheikh Tajudeen Adewunmi, has debunked that orientation, saying that, a husband can engage in a sexual act with his wife during the holy month.
Sheik Tajuedeen said, “husband can access his wife after breaking his fast and outside the period of fasting. The pristine legislation approves of this Q2:187”
The Ogun state-based cleric also cleared the air on whether it is appropriate to take alcohol during Ramadan or not.
He established that Alcoholic drink isn’t permitted in the Islamic religion at all, talkless of the Ramadan period.
In his words, “It is a is clear legislation in the Qur’an by the Lord of the Worlds that Alcohol is forbidden for a Muslim at any time in his life, much less so in the holy month of Ramadan.”
He added that “Drinking of and benefitting from alcohol vitiates the acts of worship, making them unacceptable and not rewardable.”
Shehik Akinwunmi concluded that the month of Ramadan offers an opportunity for spiritual awakening and training to withdraw wrongdoings for those who desire the rahamah of Allah.

The Nigerian Police Authority has paraded three officers who were captured in a viral video slapping a man in Rivers state.
A video went viral a few days ago wherein, the officers, Inspector Adejoh Siaka; Inspector Friday Obaka, and Sgt. Ndiwa Kpuebari from Rivers State were seen ordering a man to leave while he was been slapped by one of the armed police officers.
Reacting to the viral video, the Police Force Public Relation Officer, Prince Olumiyiwa Adejobi, announced that the officers have reported to the force headquarters for questioning.
He said, “These are the men who slapped a man on the road in Rivers, Inspector Adejoh Siaka; Inspector Friday Obaka, and Sgt. Ndiwa Kpuebari from Rivers State. They reported at the Force Headquarters today. A trial will soon commence. We will update you as soon as possible. Thanks.”
Extra-judicial killings, assaults, and harassment by the men of the Nigerian Police Officers resulted in the 2021 nationwide protest tagged #EndSARS.
The Police authority has since been working to ensure its men adhere strictly to working ethics, and protect lives and properties rather than abusing rights.
Nigeria’s U-23 national team tagged the Olympic Eagles have failed to qualify for this year’s African Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.
Guinea defeated their Nigerian counterparts 2-0 after a goalless draw played a week ago in Nigeria.
The Salisu Yusuf-led Eagles failed to convert their chances with the first 45 minutes ending in goalless, but the Guineans came back in the second half scoring two goals which silenced the Nigerian Olympic Eagles.
Second-half goals from Algassime Bah and Alseny Soumah sealed the qualification in Rabat, Morocco.
Guinea booked their spot on Tuesday after they had recorded a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Abuja.
This result means the Eagles will not play at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The team has also failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo after failing to go past the group stage of the U-23 AFCON.
The 2023 U-23 AFCON will be hosted by Morocco between June 24 and July 8, 2023.

Entertainment Lawyer, Bobo Ajudua, has opined that the relationship between Nigeria’s top pop stars, David Adeleke aka Davido, and Ibrahim Balogun known also as Wizkid, is not in any way different from what exists between Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina captain, Lionel Messi.
Fans often compare the two Nigerian artists, placing them side-by-side whilst arguing for or against to determine who is superior between the two entertainers who have ruled the Nigerian and African entertainment industry for over a decade and are now taking over the global stage.
The rivalry which is often propelled by fans and popularized by the media is similar to what has been happening between two football stars, Ronaldo and Messi, according to Davido’s lawyer, Ajudua, who doubles as his co-manager.
Ajudua while speaking in an interview argued that Davido and Wizkid have healthy competition instead of rivalry because they operate in the same industry and that’s exactly what is going on between Ronaldo and Messi.
Bobo Ajudua said, “What is happening between Davido and Wizkid is similar to what is happening with two great footballers— Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”
The entertainment lawyer asserted that If you put both Davido and Wizkid in the same room, you will find them sharing jokes with each other.
He also added that the relationship between these two entertainers is a healthy one which is always welcome and acceptable.
Speaking of the fans who trigger rivalry rather than healthy competition, Bobo appreciated the fans of both artists acknowledging that without them the two singers wouldn’t have attained their present heights in their musical careers.
In Ajudua’s words, “We must appreciate their teams because without them there is no way both parties will have come this far or attained the heights they are at today.”
Bobo who revealed he’s a childhood friend of Davido, even though he’s older than the singer, confirms that contrary to many views, Davido and Wizkid often speak.
He said, “The two of them [Davido and Wizkid] speak more often than people would ever realize.”
Ajudua concluded by stating that if one considers the length of time the two artists have stayed at the top of the Nigerian entertainment industry if the other one was not there, whoever is at the top would have felt very lonely.

It is match day three of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Stade Adrar in Morocco where the group A match between Sierra Leone and Sao Tome Principe holds.
Sierra Leone came into this match as the 3rd placed team on the log having lost one and drew another of the day one and day two matches respectively, while Sao Tome and Principe came from the backfoot of two heavy defeats on the opening and match day two in the hands of Guinea Bissau and Nigeria.
It seems we have a revived Sao Tome and Principe team on this match day 3 as they found the back of the net in the 43rd minute through Luis Leal.
A fantastic cutback from Neves and a cool finish from Leal, the Sao Tome top scorer.
The Sao Tome held on till the end of 45 minutes but just three minutes into the 2nd half, Sierra Leone found their breakthrough and are back on level term in the 48 minutes. Thanks to a goal from Mustapha Bundu who lashed onto a spilled ball from Tavinho, the Sao Tome goalkeeper. And it is 1-1
Though Sierra Leone took charge of the game after the equalizer it was Sao tome who got the second goal.
A lovely interplay between the Sao Tome players and Luis Leal again just one minute before the half-hour mark, with a wonderful flick over the top of Ibrahim Cisse the Sierra Leone eighteen-year-old goalkeeper, gave Leal a brace and the Sao Tome regained the lead once again.
Meanwhile, the unrelenting Leone stars after hitting the goal post got their second goal in the 78th minute through Abu Komeh who tapped in a pass from Kamara.
It ended 2-2 at the Stade Adrar with Sao Tome picking their first point of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.
Sierra Leone and Sao Tome Principe remain 3rd and 4th respectively on the group A log irrespective of what happens between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.

It is match day 3 of the 2023 African Cup Of Nations qualifiers.
The biennial African international association football tournament which will be held in Ivory Coast between January and February 2024 shall have twenty-four teams in attendance including Ivory Coast who have qualified automatically as hosts.
Six venues in five host cities will welcome the twenty-four top African teams (Ivory Coast inclusive) for the prestigious CAF-organised men’s AFCON.
The ongoing qualifiers are a requisite for any team to reach the biennial tournament.
In this article, CitySports focuses on the qualifying match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Djuturs of Guinea Bissau.
To analyze the chances of both teams as they prepare to face off in the group A match scheduled for Friday 24th of March, at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja before a return leg at the Estádio 24 de Setembro on March 27, 2023.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria currently sit top of Group A with six points and the Djuturs occupied the second position on the log with four points.
Head-To-Head
Nigeria and Guinea Bissau have played six games at the senior national team level three times, during the 2019 African Cup Of Nations in Egypt, with the Super Eagles triumphing by 2-0.
Neither of these two teams has won their last six matches, while Guinea Bissau have drawn three and also lost three matches, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have lost five matches and drew just one.
The above stat shows how in-form these two teams are, and with no regard to individual players’ current form.
Nigeria have participated in six of the last eight editions of the FIFA World cup, missing only the 2006 and 2022 editions. They have reached the round of 16 on three occasions. Their first World Cup appearance was the 1994 edition
The Guinea Bissau team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cups but qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations three times, making their debut in 2017.
The Super Eagles are also three times AFCON champions, while Guinea Bissau are still looking forward to a first AFCON title.
What To Expect
Being the first and the second on the log, we are in for an exciting match, and whilst Guinea Bissau will fancy the chance to Overtake Nigeria on the log, the Super Eagles with their tons of foreign professionals and in-form strikers, like Osimhen and Lookman (both players who top Serie A goal chart) won’t make things easier for the Djuturs.
Though on paper and with Eagles striking prowess at the moment, bookmakers would give it to the Nigerians, however, the Djuturs have kept three clean sheets in their last six games, playing a goalless draw with South Sudan on two occasions, and another draw against Guinea.
They have also incurred six goals from the last six games and that’s only 50% of what their Friday’s opponents, the Super Eagles, have incurred in their last six games.
Nigeria have lost five matches of the six recently played, drawn one, and will be seeking to change that narrative in this match Against Guinea Bissau on Friday at Estádio 24 de Setembro.
All the twenty-three invited players have arrived at Super Eagles camp, these are: Goalkeeping lAkpoguma, Aribo, Lookman, Iwobi, Ajayi, Aniagboso, Uzoho, Ndidi, Bameyi, Omeruo, Onyeka, Simon, Onuachu, Osayi, Musa, Moffi, Sochima, Bassey, Onyemaechi, Chukwueze, Iheanacho, Osimhen, Zaidu.
Who do you think will win this match? Will the Djuturs of Guinea Bissau overtake the Eagles on the log or will Nigeria consolidate on their current form to secure the maximum points which push them closer to a qualification?
The match is 5pm Nigerian time and we can’t wait to see the exciting match with you.

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday, March 13, 2023, ordered commercial banks to accept and start dispensing the old naira notes.
The old notes were seized to be legal tender as of February 10th, 2023 based on the FG-CBN deadline for swapping old notes for newly redesigned notes.
But a supreme court order compelled Nigeria’s apex bank to rescind its decision on February tenth.
CBN on Monday in compliance with the March 3 ruling of the Supreme Court declared that the old ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1000 notes should be used concurrently with the new notes till December 31, 2023.
Whilst the CBN deadline stands, and prior to Monday’s declaration by the apex bank, many Nigerians went through difficulties and so much hardship leading to an outbreak of protests across the country, loss of lives and properties, paralyzes of commercial activities among other unforgettable issues that bedeviled or plagued the Naira redesign policy.
In this article, CityNews highlights ten unforgettable issues that characterized the CBN laudable policy which was targeted at kidnappers, vote buyers, and the actualization of a cashless policy.
Issues That Plague CBN Naira Redesign Policy
1. Scarcity of Naira – One of CBN’s intentions for the naira redesign is to mop up excessive cash in circulation, which according to the CBN Governor, Emefiele, is the cause of the increasing inflation rate in Nigeria.
To achieve its aim, the CBN releases a limited amount of the new naira notes to commercial banks, but the Nigerian economy has been predominantly a cash-driven economy, hence, the contraction in cash supply caused serious panic and adverse effects on individuals and businesses.
2. Hoarding Of New Naira Notes, Naira Racketeering – Naira scarcity was not only caused by the contraction in supply but also, some bank managers were hoarding the new notes and were selling to POS operators who charged the public exorbitant fees for swapping and withdrawal.
Nigerians were paying as high as ₦1,500 for the withdrawal of ₦5,000, that’s 25% of any amount to be withdrawn. In other words, to withdraw five thousand naira (₦5,000) such a customer must pay six thousand, five hundred naira only (₦6,500) or the customer gets three thousand five hundred naira (₦3,500) instead of five thousand naira (₦5,000).
Certainly, for over a month, Nigerians were exploited through naira racketeering.
3. #NairaToNaira Trends – Naira racketeers ensure that the new naira notes didn’t get to the masses, forcing them to buy their own currency at a premium. The situation resulted in varying amounts at which Nigerians paid to get cash for domestic needs.
Since Nigerians were buying naira at varying amounts, people coined the phrasal hashtag ‘NairaToNaira’, which simply indicates how much naira is being paid to acquire new naira notes at different places in Nigeria.
The hashtag trended for most of the periods that the CBN old naira notes’ February 10th, 2023 swapping deadline stands.
4. Prices Of Commodities Skyrocket – The direct effect or chain reaction of Naira scarcity was a hike in the prices of domestic goods, especially those needed for immediate consumption.
Prices of goods skyrocketed because many small business owners and individuals needed physical cash to pay their suppliers, most of whom demanded payment in cash. So, lots of petty traders, especially those that have no bank accounts had to buy naira at a premium to pay suppliers, the premium is a factor taken into consideration when pricing their goods, and the premium is passed to final consumers.
CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele
5. CBN Governor Became More Popular – prior to the Naira Redesign Policy and its untoward hardship, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was not known by many Nigerians, in fact, not many knew he wanted to contest the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential primary election.
However, shortly before the February 10th naira swapping deadline, the CBN governor’s name, Emefiele, became a household name because of the difficulties the naira redesign policy has brought on Nigerians.
As with every leader, Emefiele is being castigated and blamed for the hardship which characterized the CBN policy, and today, tons of people in the queue at different commercial banks would quickly and verbally hold Emefiele responsible for their predicaments.
6. People Lost Their Lives – This is one of the tragic events that plagued the naira redesign policy.
At least four persons were reported dead when violent protests erupted in parts of Benin City, the Edo State capital, as angry residents, who could not access their monies in commercial banks, took to the streets.
7. Commercial Banks across the country lost valuable assets worth millions of naira – Following protests that erupted in many parts of the country, some commercial banks in Ogun, Oyo, and Delta were set ablaze by irate youths who couldn’t bear the suffering brought on them by the naira scarcity.
But instead of seeking a peaceful and amicable means of way out, these youths wreaked havoc.
The banks’ assets that were gutted by fire were worth millions of naira.
8. Commercial activities paralyzed – The scarcity of naira impacted negatively on so many commercial activities. Lots of POS operators shut down their businesses, and traders dealing in perishable goods were counting their losses as people can’t patronize them because of a lack of cash, so their goods became bad and unsellable.
It was an event many Nigerians would love to forget quickly. When our correspondent speak to a section of Ogun state residents, they expressed joy at CBN’s decision to obey the supreme court order while recounting their ordeals.
A fruit seller, simply said, “can you see how tensions were doused across the metropolis after the CBN confirmed that the old naira notes should remain legal tender till December 31st, 2023.”
“The past few weeks’ experiences were horrible”, she added.
That expression summed up how difficult it’s been for small businesses, roadside traders, and many Nigerians who would need cash for daily and domestic needs.
9. MoreNigerians embrace online/mobile banking – Prior to the February 10th Naira swapping deadline, the associated naira scarcity, and commercial activity paralyzes; a number of businesses reject payment via bank transfer, or POS terminal, largely because they are either scared of losing their money to fake alert, failed transaction and/or to avoid bank charges on transactions less than a thousand naira (₦1,000).
However, the situation has changed as a good number of petty traders, and businesses who reject transfers have now embraced such forms of payments. One of the CBN’s objectives is gradually being achieved, one would say.
10. Unusual Demand For Bank Statements Over Failed Transactions – Many commercial banks in Nigeria are today overcrowded and most of these bank customers visit their banks to request bank statements because of failed, delayed, and/or proof to show a beneficiary of successful transactions.
It is the confirmation of the fear Nigerians nursed by not fully accepting online/mobile banking.
Many have argued that the CBN’s cashless policy, even though it is not new, is like placing the cart before the horse because of the incessant downtime usually experienced by commercial banks which has resulted in failed or delayed transactions.
They opined that commercial banks need to upgrade their system to be able to accommodate the surge in financial transactions triggered by the CBN Naira redesign policy and its untoward scarcity.
The CBN policy even though grossly castigated, is laudable and would have positive impacts on the Nigerian economy in the long run.
According to a former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governor, and a former presidential aspirant, professor Kingsley Moghalu, whatever benefits ascribed to the Naira Redesign Policy, has been nullified by the untoward hardship it created.
He said, “Today, whatever may have been the benefits of the naira redesign policy have been canceled out by the economic and social gridlock it has created and we are still suffering from it.”

The 17th edition of the U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has come to an end in Egypt but left us with amazing memorable moments; some to be cherished for long while others to be forgotten quickly.
Indeed, it was an eventful tournament from the opening game until the last game which saw the Senegalese Cubs of Teranga crowned champions of the U-20 AFCON for the very first time.
In this article, we present six remarkable events of the just concluded U-20 African Cup of Nations.
Why not join us as we explore these memorable and stunning moments.
Egypt U-20 Players
Hosts Egypt Failed To Score A Single Goal – For the young Pharaos of Egypt, the 2023 U-20 AFCON is one to be forgotten very quickly.
Despite hosting a commendable tournament, the hosts Egypt, could not score a goal as they were held to a goalless draw by Mozambique in their opening game, lost 1-0 to the Nigeria Flying Eagles, and were trashed 4-0 by Senegal in their last group game at the Cairo International stadium.
The four-time champions failed to make it into the knockout stages following their poor outing.
Gambia U-20 Celebrate First Ever AFCON Final Qualification
First-Time Finalists – The Scorpions of Gambia who stunned the Flying Eagles of Nigeria to reach a first-ever U-20 AFCON final have reached the semi-finals on two occasions prior to the 2023 edition but ended their campaign as bronze medalists in 2001, and at the last edition in Mauritania.
Though they were left in despair after their loss against Senegal in the final, their performances at the just concluded tournament are an indication of greater things coming the way of the West African country.
Scored a total of ten goals, won five of six matches, draw none, and conceded no goal until the final match against their neighbors, indeed the Gambia are becoming a force to reckon with in African male football.
Senegalese Celebrate Their Victory Against Tunisia
New Champions Emerge – This year’s edition produced new winners, the young Teranga Lions of Senegal who have reached the finals three times before the 2023 edition.
In 2015 Senegal finished 2nd behind the flying Eagles of Nigeria, in 2017 the Lions of Teranga ended up as runners again losing to Zambia and in 2019 they were beaten to the u-20 trophy by Mali.
Senegal have now joined nine other countries that have won the tournament since its inception in 1979.
Senegal’s victory; a confirmation of the West African country’s dominance of African male football.
No male football team in Africa has had it so so good as the Senegalese in the past two-three years.
The Teranga Lions have won all the major titles back-to-back within the space of two years.
They are the current Champions of the prestigious African Cup of Nations at the senior or national team level, winners of the Home-based African Championship, CHAN, which was hosted by Algeria earlier this year. Senegal claim their fourth consecutive CAF Beach soccer AFCON title in Mozambique in 2022 after they ended as runners at the 2022 COSAFA Beach soccer.
We can confirm to you that at club levels, Senegal is doing very great too.
It is indeed the Senegalese season as far as African Football is concerned.
The young Lions of Teranga also dominated the individual awards with Lamine Camara awarded Most Valuable Player Of The Tournament, Pape Demba Diop scooping the Golden Boot award whilst the Senegalese custodian, Landing Badji was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
New Tournament Records | Six Victories, Six Clean Sheets
Both the Scorpions of Gambia and the young Teranga Lions of Senegal conceded no goals until the final when Gambia were beaten 2-0 by Senegal.
Senegal went from the preliminary stage to the quarter-finals, the semis as well as the final; scored a total of 14 goals and conceded none. That’s a stunning record to beat, and it also shows how compact and formidable the Senegalese have been. West African countries emerge winners, first, and second runners up
The Wests certainly dominated the 17th edition of the U-20 AFCON. Apart from Gambia and Senegal who closed their campaign as champions and first runners-up, Nigeria who records seven-time winners, run riot against Tunisia, trashing them 4 nil to claim the bronze medal. Hence, we have Senegal, Gambia, and Nigeria all from the west scooping all the accolades.
And that wraps us up the six key remarkable events of Egypt 2023 U-20 AFCON.
Certainly! It was an amazing tournament we had in Egypt and we look forward to the eighteenth edition in two years’ time.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered commercial banks to accept and dispense old naira notes.
According to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, the Central Bank of Nigeria has asked commercial banks to dispense and accept old naira notes as deposits.
He said, “Commercial banks have been directed by the Central Bank to dispense old currency notes and also to receive the same deposits from customers. Tellers at commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits, and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.”
Soludo, a former CBN governor, explained that the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele gave the directive at a Banker’s Committee meeting on Sunday.
In his words, “The Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March 2023.”
This is coming after reports that some businesses, including commercial banks, fuel stations still reject the old notes as legal tender as against supreme court order.
Charles in a social media post urges Anambra residents to accept and to report banks refusing the old notes.
Soludo said, “Residents of Anambra are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old currency notes ₦200, ₦500; and ₦1,000 and the new notes.”
The governor added that CBN governor personally confirmed the directive to him via phone.
He said, “The Governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night.

Nnaji stance differs completely as she stated that as far as she is concerned ‘money is my major priority’ and an important requisite to loving a man.
The movie producer stated that she would begin to love a man if he has money but if he lacks, even if she loves such a person, the love would diminish and fade away over time.
In her words, “Even if I don’t love the person and he has money, I would start loving the person with time, but my love for someone without money will fade as I would begin to hate the person with time.
Charity believes that the man must be ready to give hence cited a Bible portion, John 3:16, as a case study for men to give as a prove of their love.
She explained that according to the Bible verse, God does not receive but gave, hence for anyone who loves another, that person must give.
She said, “The only way to prove love is by giving. If someone says he loves me and he cannot give me money, that love is questionable.”

Marriage is a vital part of human existence and it is an institution established by the creator.
Marriage is simply the coming together of two passionate individuals, a male, and a female, in its original context for procreation.
This process saddled responsibilities on both the man and the woman who intend to walk the aisle.
The man should be able to provide for his home, and in today’s reality, both men and women support each other in building a reasonable home.
Having said that, lots of women would accept marriage proposals from men they believe is capable of providing for their well-being.
Nonetheless, a Nollywood actress, Peju Johnson, has revealed why she won’t marry a man for money.
Speaking to Nollygistv in a recent interview, the actress who was featured in a movie titled ‘Replica’ stated that Love without money isn’t good, but she would rather marry for love than for money.
In her words, “If I marry for money, the marriage won’t last because I could leave him for someone I love.”
Johnson’s perspective counters a host of other Nollywood actresses who have opined that money is the bedrock of any marriage.
Recently, Charity Nnaji stated that she would come to love a man with money but her love for a man without money will fade over time.
Peju who stated that she would consider love when marrying, but quickly added jokingly that the man must be rich, prefers a marriage where both the man and the woman support each other.
She said, “My partner and I should be able to support each other because I don’t want the man to be the sole provider.”
The voluptuous actress added that being the breadwinner of a home can be frustrating especially if it is one-sided.

The 17th edition of the U-20 AFCON will produce new champions which will be either the cubs of Teranga or the Scorpions of Gambia.

They came into the tournament as strong contenders having won the tournament a record seven times but they failed to reach the final of the 2023 U-20 AFCON in Egypt, thus, the hope of securing a record 8th title has been postponed until another edition.
The Nigerian Flying Eagles who started slowly but managed to reach the last four of this year’s edition of the U-20 AFCON in Egypt will file out against the young Cattage Eagles of Tunisia on Friday for the 3rd place and bronze medal match.
As the 17th edition of the ongoing U-20 AFCON wraps up, Nigeria and Tunisia, the semi-final losers will face each other at the Cairo Int’l stadium on Friday to determine the second runners-up of this year’s edition of the tournament, a match both teams wouldn’t want to lose for pride sake.
Nothing at stake but the bronze medal and pride.
Tunisia have reached the semi-finals twice, the first in 1985 losing to the Flying Eagles of Nigeria and the second was at the last edition in Mauritania where they lost to another West African country, Ghana.
The Carthage Eagles’ performance against West African opponents at this level have always been poor as they also lost this year’s semi-final match to Senegal, a West African country.
Having this at heart would be demoralizing for the Tunisia U-20 team, however, this is football, and history in most cases have no impact on the current form or the match to be played.
How Both Teams Have Faired At This Year’s Tournament
Tunisia, made it through the preliminary stages only after the final game against the young Chipolopolo of Zambia, as their fate were hanging in the result of the match between Gambia and Benin on match day 3.
But they were able to triumph over Zambia by two goals to one, their first victory of the tournament.
Tunisia ended up 2nd behind the Gambia in Group C with four points having lost their first match one-zero to the group leaders, Gambia, drawing 0-0 with Benin in the second match before defeating Zambia 2-1 in their last group game.
The Tunisians picked up the pieces, and reached the semi-final plus a ticket to the FIFA U-20 world cup in Indonesia, thanks to a scintillating performance against Congo in the quarter-final.
The Carthage Eagles overcame Congo 5-4 on penalties after the match extended to an extra time and a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes at the Cairo Int’l stadium.
But the Eagles of Cattage were overpowered by in-form Cubs of Teranga who run riots and defeated the Tunisians by three unreplied goals.
The defeat is the 2nd for the Tunisians in this tournament and the three-time semi-finalists will now face familiar foes, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, for a chance to clinch the bronze medal.
It hasn’t been a smooth tournament for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, as they were beating one-nil in their opening game against Senegal, but recovered quickly, beating the hosts Egypt 1-0 before thumping Moçambique 2-0 in their last group game.
The Eagles triumphed over Uganda in the quarter-final via an own goal but lost 0-1 to the Gambia in the semi-final played on Monday.
At this tournament, the Nigerians have been poor in front of goal and are lackadaisical in the midfield, they’ve scored four goals so far and conceded two. The four goals were scored in their victories against Egypt, Mozambique, and Uganda, while the two conceded occurred in the games lost to Senegal and Gambia.
This is a true reflection of the Eagles’ attitude and approach to their games at this tournament, poor in attack, lackadaisical in the middle, and are average at the backline, but this in contrast to their 3rd place playoff opponents, Tunisia, who despite having conceded a total of eight goals, scored five, looks promising going forward.
Their ability to put two behind Zambia and three past Congo, a total of five goals in two matches shows what they can do in front of goal and that should worry their opponents, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who have only scored just four goals in four matches.
Head To Head
Both teams’ first meeting was at the semi-final of the 1985 edition with the Flying Eagles winning that contest.
In this tournament, Tunisia have won two matches, draw one, and lost two, while Nigeria have won three matches, and draw none but lost two.
The Flying Eagles are also the WAFU B champions prior to this tournament.
What To Expect:
We expect to see two sides who are hungry to play for pride and to prove doubters wrong.
Both teams according to their respective coaches have what it takes to go all the way.
Will the Flying Eagles remain ‘snail in shells’ and be carted away by the Cattage Eagles or with the Flying Eagles Soar while breaking the wings of their opponents.
It is the contest of the Eagles, which one of these will triumph after 90 or 120 minutes? You can leave your opinion in the comment section.

When this tournament started on February 19 at the Cairo International Stadium, in Egypt, no one considered them a favourite or gave them a chance of making it through the group stage where they face Benin, Tunisia, and Zambia.
But with a perfect run in the preliminary stage, a strong defensive line, and sharp attacks which saw them bang nine goals and conceded none after four matches before stunning the Flying Eagles of Nigeria in the semi-final and still conceded not a goal, The young Scorpions of Gambian have written their names in the book of African football history.
And of course, the giants of African football, this is with no regard to the latest FIFA rankings but facts, Senegal remain top of men’s African football.
They are the holders of the prestigious AFCON title at the senior level, WAFU A championship winners, CAF and COSAFA Beach soccer AFCON champions, and 2nd runners up COSAFA Men U-20 Championship.
It is the Egypt 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations final, and certainly, we are going to have new champions as previous winners have all been eliminated from this year’s edition.
The Cubs of Teranga, who were three times runners-up will go against the baby scorpions of Gambia who have also reached the semi-finals of the U-20 AFCON on two previous occasions but never made it to the final until last Monday when they secured their five straight victories at the ongoing tournament, thanks to Adama Bojang solo goal against the lackadaisical Eagles of Nigeria.
This final between two neighbours will be a repeat of the WAFU-A qualifying tournament in Mauritania which Senegal won courtesy of Samba Diallo’s diving header.
How Both Teams Have Faired At The 2023 AFCON
It’s been an amazing tournament for both Senegal and Gambia, both teams have won all five matches from the group stage to the semi-finals, and neither of these two teams have conceded a single goal and have scored ten goals or more.
Whilst the young lions of Teranga have scored twelve goals, the young scorpions have scored a total of ten goals.
Both Gambia and Senegal have shown composure and solidity at the backlines and have proven to be even more clinical in front of the goal.
This is a match we can’t wait to see, given the scoring prowess of both teams, we are likely to be thrilled with so many goals but on the other hand, if one considers, the two teams’ ability in the defense which have seen them kept five clean sheets from five games, then we may be seeing a match that would end in a goalless draw and be decided by penalties.
Surely, this is a tricky final match for both Abdoulie Bojang and Malick Daf, the Gambian and Senegal U-20 coaches.
The young lions of Senegal have what it takes to run at their opponents, can shoot on target from any range, and are good at set pieces, the Gambians are known to build play slowly and take advantage of counterattacks.
Head To Head
Saturday’s final will be the 3rd meeting between Senegal and Gambia in recent times, with Senegal having the upper hand with a victory and a draw.
Last September, the cubs of Teranga overcame Gambia’s young Scorpions in a friendly match by a goal to nothing, in November 2020, The Gambians thumped Senegal on penalties to clinch WAFU A title.
The two teams have won five of five games at the ongoing tournament in Egypt with Senegal scoring twelve goals so far and the Gambians ten in five matches.
Neither team has lost, drawn a match nor conceded a goal.
This is an exciting contest, and Gambia who lost the 2022 WAFU A title to Senegal will be looking to redeem and avenge their regional loss at the continental level.
The question is, who will triumph after 90 or 120 minutes.
What the coaches are saying:
Speaking shortly after their victory, Malik Daf, the Senegalese coach, reiterated that his team’s objective is to lift the AFCON U-20 trophy.
He said, “We will prepare for the final on Saturday because our objective is to win the trophy.”
On his part Abdoullie Bojang is determined to prevent Senegal from claiming the AFCON U-20 Gold medals, he said they are ready to fight.
In Bojang’s words, “We will fight for the title against Senegal.
“Senegal is winning everything right now. We must prevent them on Saturday.”
Senegal are the AFCON Champions at the senior or national team level
Claim their fourth consecutive Beach Soccer AFCON title in Mozambique, the same year they beat Egypt in the Final of the COSAFA Beach Soccer Cup and are also the second runners-up at the 2022 COSAFA U-20 Men’s championship.
Who will be crowned the new U-2- African Cup of Nations champions? Will it be the Scorpions or the Lions?

Ayodele Fayose, the former Ekiti state governor has likened the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Adediran aka Jandor, and his running mate, Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele, to theatre act actors.
The former governor opined that the PDP candidate has no capacity to rule Lagos.
Fayose who stated this during a breakfast show on TVC also revealed that the PDP governorship candidate, Jandor, disobeyed the party’s chairman in Lagos, chief Bode George, by not making Gbadebo Patrick Rhodes, the now Labour Party governorship candidate, his deputy.
He noted that that is the bane of PDP issues in Lagos.
Fayose also takes a swipe at Gbadebo Patrick Rhodes, the LP Governorship candidate in Lagos, that the governorship aspirant can’t Yoruba fluently, a Lagos local language.
The Lagos PDP Chieftain, Bode George recently alleged that Patrick Rhodes’ life is being threatened.

A former governor of Ekiti state and a BOT member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that his party was responsible for the hardship Nigerians are going through over Naira redesign.
Fayose stated this during the TVC morning show on Tuesday, where he confessed that the Naira Redesign policy was a strategy by the PDP when its house is no longer in order.
Nigerians to date still suffer from the effect of the cash redesign policy which saw the Central Bank of Nigeria mop trillions of naira from circulation but released only a fraction of that as new notes.
The situation also brought about the hoarding of the new naira notes, naira racketeering, and Nigerians having to pay a premium amount to get cash for their daily and domestic use.
Despite the Supreme Court ruling that the old naira notes should remain in circulation till December 31st, 2023, many Nigerians, especially those in remote areas and petty traders are still unable to go by their normal commercial activities owing to the naira scarcity.
Fayose has now revealed that PDP is behind the laudable policy implemented hurriedly to impart negatively on the result of the 2023 General elections.
He also confirmed that he has stepped aside from being a PDP member for the benefit of Nigeria.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have secured a slot into the final four of 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Nigerian U-20 escaped the scares of Ugandan Hippos on Thursday night but triumphed with a 1-0 victory.
The Hippos dominated most of the game, and took the game to their Nigerian counterparts but failed to convert the few chances they have, and weren’t so clinical with their finishing.
However, the Flying Eagles should be commended for a good defensive line that prevented the Hippos from penetrating Nigeria’s final third.
Ladan Bosso’s men started the game on a brighter note but weren’t able to continue their impressive form which gave the Ugandans the space to play their games.
Nigeria U-20 have won the tournament seven times and are on the verge of securing a record eight AFCON title.
The Flying Eagles will play the winner of Gambia vs South Sudan for a chance to play in another final.
The Senegalese U-20 national team have reached the Semi-final of the 2023 African Cup Of Nations in Egypt.
The cubs who are bookmakers’ favourites defeated toothless Benin U-20 by a goal to nothing in the first quarter-final played at the Cairo International stadium, Egypt.
Samba Dialo nodded home a free kick in the 51st minute to seal Senegal’s victory which ensures they became the first team to reach the last four.
Senegal have been runners-up three times, prior to this tournament, and are still chasing first glory at the U-20 level.
To reach the quarter-final, the cubs scored eight goals and conceded none, defeated the Flying Eagles Of Nigeria by a single goal, whip Mozambique 3-0 before trashing hosts Egypt 4-0 in their final group game.
Benin, however, qualified as one of the best third place teams, having secured just two points from their preliminary stage matches.
