Iyanya Granted ₦20m Bail Over Allegation of Car Theft

Singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, professionally known as Iyanya has been granted bail in the sum of ₦20 million by the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on Thursday.

Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile granted him bail with one surety in like sum.

The judge said the surety must own a landed property in Lagos, adding that Iyanya must perfect the bail conditions within seven days, failing which he would be remanded in custody.

The musician is facing one count of car theft before the judge.

In the charge sheet, marked LD/9024C/2019, the police accused the musician of “dishonestly converting to his own a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep with Chassis Number: JTEBX7FJ7EK165480, Engine Number: 2TRI385954 and Registration Number: MAVINIY, a property of The Temple Management Company Limited, represented by one Ayodeji Olomojobi, Esq.

In the charge sheet signed by Chukwu Agwu, the police claimed that Iyanya committed the offence “in September 2018 in Lagos State.”

The offence, according to the police, is contrary to sections 278(1)(b), and 279(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, and punishable under Section 285(10) of the same law.

But Iyanya has pleaded not guilty.

The judge adjourned till May 27 for the commencement of trial.
