Kidnap Kingpin, Chikwudubem Onwuamadike, Aka Evans Sentenced To Death

A Lagos High Court has sentenced notorious kidnap kingpin, Chikwudubem Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, to death.Evans, 39, was arrested in a major police sting in June 2017 and has since been held in detention along with his alleged accomplices.

Evans Sentenced To death

Evans was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping.

The Lagos State Government had said Evans conspired on February 14th, 2017 at about 7.45pm at Ilupeju, Lagos, to kidnap one Donatus Dunu and collect €223,000 for his release.

According to the police, Evans managed to escape arrest for seven years.

He was, however, arrested after a police special squad caught up with him at his No. 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home.

The kidnap kingpin then confessed to being responsible for many high-profile kidnap cases in many states of the country, especially Lagos State.

He also confessed to earning money running into billions of naira from his unlawful activities, having charged some of his victims up to $1 million each as ransom.

– ‘Anybody that is rich’ –

In another interview with local broadcaster Channels TV in June, Evans revealed the meticulous planning that went into kidnap operations and how targets were selected.

“Anybody that is rich, you will know that he is rich. I have people that give me information,” said Evans, who is a well-known figure in the Lagos criminal underworld according to local media.

“We would carry the man, put them inside the motor and go.

“The highest money we have collected is from somebody living in Festac (Lagos) — $1 million.”

Chikwudubem denied having personally murdered during kidnap operations.

“It is not me that killed. I don’t kill,” he said, adding he was unsure if his accomplices had.

Evans was himself the victim of a kidnapping in 2015 but was freed following the intervention of a gang leader, according to the Saturday Tribune newspaper.
