Murder Trial | US Govt. Offers $25,000 Reward For Information On Fleeing Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi

The United States has announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian national-facing trial for the alleged murder of his child. Olawusi has been named among the 15 most wanted fugitives in the U.S., according to a statement from Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Freeman.

The Incident and Charges

Olawusi, who resided in Rhode Island, U.S., was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and inflicting bodily injury to a child. The charges stem from an incident on April 3, 2017, when police and firefighters found his three-month-old child in critical condition. The infant, who had sustained injuries to 18 parts of his body, was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away six months later.

Arrest and Escape

Olawusi was initially arrested and charged on April 20, 2017. However, he was released the same day and subsequently fled, evading prosecution. The murder charge was added following the infant’s death on October 31, 2017.

The U.S. Marshals Service has placed Olawusi on its 15 Most Wanted fugitives list, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses. Investigations revealed that Olawusi fled the country on June 20, 2017, and is believed to be receiving assistance from family members in Nigeria.
