Ogun State Confirms Community Spread of Coronavirus.
The state governor, Dapo Abiodun announced on Monday during a press briefing.
In his words:
“I appreciate the entire citizenry for their compliance, service and support during this period which is targeted at containing the spread of the Coronavirus in the State.
Because we are committed to the welfare of the people of Ogun, we have directed a breather between 7am and 2pm tomorrow, Tuesday 7th April, Thursday 9th, and Saturday 11th, to allow everyone buy essential household needs and earn some living, especially for daily income earners.
However, hygiene measures must be maintained during these times, if we must go out.
I commend the conduct of the people during the stimulus package distribution meant for the poor, vulnerable and elderly.
These beneficiaries have started receiving the bags which each contain seven (7) food items strictly meant for one household each, and not a street, group or community development association (CDA).
The first phase of the exercise targets about 300 households in each ward, and all five phases will eventually reach about 1,500 households in each ward.
I however announce the unfortunate confirmation of two (2) new active cases in Ogun State today, Monday, 6th April.
Confirmed cases in the State now stand at six (6), while all active cases are three (3), with three discharged. Of the active three, one (1) is stable and may be discharged soon, but the two new cases who do not have recent travel history or contact with previous confirmed cases, mean the State has community spread. So we all need to maintain precaution during the 7-hour breathers.
New measures we have now installed include the provision of a special welfare package for frontline health personnel, enrolment of qualified private hospitals as incident centres, with our provision of PPEs, immediate membership of top State functionaries in the State Task Force, furtherance of plans for mobile testing laboratory and a molecular laboratory.
He enjoined citizens to comply with directives and to donate towards the course.
“Please, continue to comply with given directives. I urge everyone who can donate to this cause to stand with us through their best means.”
