Paris 2024 | Nigeria’s D’Tigress Emerge 1st African Team To Reach Olympic Quarter Finals
D‘Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, has emerged as the first African Female Basketball team to reach the Olympics quarterfinal.
The reigning African champions triumphed over Canada at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics with a hard-fought 79-70 win in their final group B match on Sunday.
The Nigerian Women’s basketball team pulled off a thrilling performance, coming from behind to beat Canada, ranked fifth in the world in the intense encounter at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics in France.
D’Tigress started the third quarter like a house on fire, going on an 11-0 run to lead Canada by 9 points with Ezinne Kalu, Promise Amukamara, and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, all on a score sheet.
The Nigerian side made history at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, in France.
The game was at a stalemate with both sides sharing 18 points each at the end of the first quarter.

Nigeria vs Canada | D’Tigress Edge Canada
Going into the second quarter, the D’Tigress trailed behind their Canadian opponents by 41-37.
With their eyes staring at making history and advancing to the last eight of the Olympics tournament, the D’Tigress intensified their attack and led by 55-46 before capping their historic performance with a 79-70 win at the end of the game.
Among the impressive players from the Nigerian side was their point guard and three-time Afrobasket champion, Ezinne Kalu, who was seen almost everywhere on the court, scoring 21 points.
The win was a proud moment for head coach Rene Wakama who had charged the African champions to get back to their ways before their game against Canada.
