Senegal’s young Lions of Teranga have emerged as winners of the Egypt 2023 U-20 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON).


Senegal overcame their neighbours, the Scorpions of Gambia by two goals to nothing in the final match played at the Cairo International Stadium, Egypt on Saturday. 

Goals from Souleymane Faye in the 6th minute and another by Lamine Camara in the 56th minute seated the first “U-20 AFCON title for the Senegal Cubs of Teranga.

Senegal are now the first African county to emerge champions at the senior /national team level, current CHAN Champions, current Beach Soccer AFCON title holders, and now U-20 AFCON champions.
This is a remarkable record in African football history.

The Cubs of Teranga also dominated the individual awards but for the ‘fair play’ award won by the Flying Eagles of Nigeria.

Lamine Camara emerging Most Valuable Player (MVP), Pape Diop emerged as the top scorer with five goals and won the golden boot, whilst Landing Badji won the best goalkeeper award.
