Black Maidens Triumph Over Flamingos to Win Maiden WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Championship

Ghana’s U17 girls’ team, the Black Maidens, have been crowned champions of the inaugural WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Championship after a dramatic victory over Nigeria’s Flamingos.

The thrilling final, held on at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre, Prampram, Ghana, ended in a 2-2 draw at full time, pushing the match into a tense penalty shootout. The Black Maidens held their nerves to secure a 5-4 victory on penalties, claiming the prestigious title.

Match Highlights

Ghana started strongly, opening the scoring early in the first half before doubling their lead shortly after. However, Nigeria fought back, with Chidera Chidi Harmony pulling one back just before halftime to keep hopes alive.

The Flamingos dominated possession in the second half, piling pressure on their opponents and eventually finding the equalizer in the 85th minute, forcing the match into a penalty decider.

In the shootout, Nigeria’s Taiwo Adegoke hit the post with her side’s third penalty attempt, while Ghana converted all their spot-kicks to emerge victorious.
