My Name Is King Tonto, The ‘KING’ Is A Name Not A Title – Tonto Dikeh Clarifies

Nigerian actress turned politician, Tonto Charity Dikeh, has made a clarification concerning the word King that usually accompanies her names.

King is the title given to a male monarch in a variety of contexts while the female equivalent is queen. In Nigeria, traditional rulers are referred to as King.

But when Tonto started adding ‘king’ to her name, she got many Nigerians confused.

Some have argued that the actress and politician added the word ‘king’ to her name to signify that she’s at par with men because she’s a single mum. Others assume she’s probably a traditional ruler.

However, Tonto Dikeh who is a running mate to Tonte, an ADC Governorship candidate in Rivers State, has set the record straight as to why she bears King Tonto.

The 37-year-old actress believes it is pertinent that she makes clarifications as to why her name includes King because of her political ambition. In her words, “I don’t call myself King, my name is king Tonto. It’s a name, not a title. It’s a name gotten from my son.”

Speaking about why she needs to make the clarification, Tonto Dikeh said,

This is something, I haven’t really gotten the chance to explain to a lot of people, but now, I think have to. I have to take it out from my [political] campaign thing, name, and campaign initiatives because I don’t want the traditional rulers to think me ahead of them.

“My king comes as a result of my name, as a name gotten from my son, it’s not a title in any way or form.”

The philanthropist cum farmer, also made a controversial statement as she regarded deputy governors as ‘Spare Tyres’.

She however said despite that, she is willing to be the best spare tyre any governor has ever had. In her words,

“A deputy governor is a spare tyre and, I am willing to be the best spare tyre. I am prepared for this, I have had 3 years to work this out, it is not something that just came out, we have had a lot of time to work for this, and for this criticism I am ready, and it does not matter where the questions will come from.

Nollygistv had reported that Tonto Dikeh as of July 2020 declares publicly, her desire to become a senator or a state governor.

She announced via her social media on June 24, 2022, that she has been nominated as the running mate for ADC governorship candidate in Rivers state.
