WAFU B U-20 Boys Championship | Flying Eagles Beat Ghana To Retain Title (Video)

Published on

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday defeated the Black Satellite of Ghana to emerge champions of the WAFU Zone B for a second consecutive time.

The Nigerian U20 team who started the tournament on a slow and losing note, took the lead for the first time in the tournament against their English speaking opponents in the 34th minutes and sealed the victory in the 45th minutes.

Ghana got a consolation goal about fifteen minutes to the end of the game but was too little to force the game to an extra time.

Nigeria lost their opening game by 1-0 to Burkina Faso, came back from a goal down to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1 in their last group game before replicating similar performance against Niger in the semi-final when they came back from a goal down to triumph over Niger.

Both Nigeria and Ghana will join other teams from the other five sub-regions in Africa; Senegal and Sierra Leone from WAFU Zone A, South Africa and Zambia from the COSAFA region, Tanzania and Kenya from the CECAFA region whilst Cameroon and Congo will represent the UNiFFAC region.

The Northern African region (UNAF) will commence their qualifying series in November.

Morocco will host the 2025 U20 AFCON.
