Mercy Chinwo vs. VeryDarkMan: When ₦1.1 Billion Becomes a Gospel Hit In the Nigerian social media courtroom

When ₦1.1bn Became a Gospel Hit: The Remix

In what seems to be the latest verse in this legal gospel saga, an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court has turned up the volume on social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). The court has now issued a bench warrant for his arrest, adding a new layer of drama to his ongoing feud with gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo.

VDM’s No-Show: A Missed “Altar Call”

Presiding over the case on Thursday, March 14, Magistrate Emmanuel Iyana ordered the Nigeria Police Force and other law enforcement  to arrest VDM and ensure he appears before

the court. This decision came after the activist was a no-show for his scheduled hearing, despite a summons issued on March 5.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, must have practiced the art of persuasion because he made a passionate plea to the court, asking for time to personally produce his client at the next sitting. Unfortunately, Magistrate Iyana was not in the mood for mercy (no pun intended) and declined to vacate the arrest order.

The Allegations: Defamation, Diversion & Dollar Drama

VDM is accused of making defamatory statements about Mercy Chinwo on social media. In particular, he alleged that she was entangled in a $345,000 contractual dispute with her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (Eezee Tee). Chinwo, not one to let false accusations slide, hit back by presenting documentary evidence, emails, and payment receipts to clear her name.

Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, insists that VDM’s comments violate Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.

The N1.1 Billion Gospel Hit – Still on the Charts

This latest development comes on the heels of the ₦1.1 billion lawsuit Mercy Chinwo previously filed against VDM at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. In that suit, she is demanding:

A public apology and retraction of the alleged defamatory statements.

The deletion of all social media posts related to the claims.

A financial atonement worth ₦1.1 billion—which, let’s be honest, could probably fund a whole new gospel album (or two).

What’s Next?

With an arrest warrant now in play, the stage is set for what could be a defining legal showdown. Will VDM surrender voluntarily, or will the police have to track him down? Either way, one thing is certain—this gospel legal battle is far from over.

Stay tuned for the next track in this unfolding drama. Will it be a redemption song or a legal remix? We’ll find out soon enough!
