Now, the very best of the best will receive a new highly exclusive honor after the League announced it will introduce its first Hall of Fame.
Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, shares with CitySports why the English League is launching a new hall of fame.
Richard said the purpose of the new ‘hall of fame’ is to honour individual players of “exceptional skill and talent” from home and abroad who have played in the top division since it began in 1992.
In Richard’s words:

A place in the PL Hall of Fame is reserved for the very best.””It will be an occasion for our fans around the world to look back over the years and help us celebrate some truly exceptional playing careers.”

A separate English Football Hall of Fame has existed since 2002 and is housed at the National Football Museum.

Candidates for the new PL Hall of Fame must have retired and only a player’s Premier League career is considered.

Each inductee will receive a personalized medallion, engraved with the year of their induction.

The League administrators in a statement said:
“Membership of the Premier League Hall of Fame will be the highest individual honor awarded to players by the League.”

Two players will be inducted initially alongside a shortlist of nominees for future inclusion, voted for by fans.
