FG Approves ₦2bn Interest-Free Loan, ₦4bn for Vulnerable Households, Launches 2025 Humanitarian Plan

The Federal Government has approved a ₦4 billion conditional cash transfer program targeting 10 million displaced households across Nigeria.

The initiative, announced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) in Abuja, aims to address the nation’s deepening humanitarian crisis.

The cash transfer program will run from February to April 2025, focusing on vulnerable groups, including widows, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities, particularly in conflict-affected regions like Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Additionally, the government has allocated ₦2 billion for interest-free loans to rural farmers. Loans ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦400,000 per household aim to boost food production and improve self-sufficiency by linking farmers to market opportunities.

Prof. Yilwada emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting internally displaced persons, female-headed households, and those affected by natural disasters. The HNRP, developed through extensive consultations, seeks to provide relief and foster long-term resilience for affected communities.

The Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Trond Jensen, highlighted that 7.8 million people in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe will require humanitarian assistance in 2025, underscoring the urgency of these interventions.

These initiatives mark a significant step toward addressing poverty, displacement, and food insecurity across Nigeria.
