Tragedy in Lagos: Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Girlfriend to Death

A chilling case of domestic violence has rocked the Ijedodo community in Alimosho, Lagos, as a 23-year-old man, Gbolahan Adebayo, has been arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death.

A Night of Horror

What started as a routine visit turned deadly when Adebayo’s 25-year-old girlfriend arrived at his residence on Friday night. By 2 a.m., neighbours were jolted awake by the sound of her desperate screams.

“The girl was a regular visitor to his house. But that night, around 2 a.m., we heard her screaming as he was beating her. It lasted for about an hour before everything suddenly went quiet,” a resident, identified simply as Akin, told reporters.

At daybreak, Adebayo’s tone changed—this time, he was the one screaming for help. But it was too late. Neighbours rushed in to find the young woman lying motionless on his bed.

Delayed Rescue Efforts Prove Fatal

According to police sources, the suspect’s neighbours initially attempted to resuscitate the victim before eventually reporting the case to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division on Sunday. Unfortunately, by the time she was taken to a hospital in Ijegun, doctors confirmed that she had succumbed to the brutal injuries inflicted on her.

Police Investigation Unfolds

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and detailed the findings of the investigative team.

“The victim’s body bore visible marks of violence. Officers visited both the crime scene and the hospital, where the corpse was inspected and documented. The body has since been deposited at the IDH morgue in Yaba for an autopsy,” Hundeyin stated.

He further confirmed that Adebayo was taken into custody and that investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the horrific crime.
