Ini Edo Opens Up About Choosing Surrogacy and Raising Her Daughter Alone
Nollywood superstar Ini Edo has shed light on her decision to opt for surrogacy to welcome her baby girl, as well as her journey to motherhood.
The award-winning actress shared her story during an emotional moment on season 3 of the popular reality show Young, Famous, and African.
In a candid conversation with her co-star Nadia, Ini revealed the struggles she faced before choosing surrogacy. When asked about her marital status and her daughter’s paternity, the 42-year-old actress explained:
“I’m not married, and the dad isn’t in the picture. He is alive, but we’re just two people – me and my daughter.”

The actress opened up about the personal battles she faced, including her struggle with fertility. “I never thought I would have fertility issues,” Ini admitted, before revealing that she went through multiple IVF treatments and endured six miscarriages.
“When it looked like it wasn’t going to happen and I wasn’t getting younger, I said, ‘What are the options available?’ Then this option [surrogacy] came up, so I took it. I am very happy with my decision,” Ini explained.
The actress further shared that her decision to pursue surrogacy was fueled by her desire to experience motherhood, even without a man in her life at the time. “There are different ways to go about it. I’m raising my child alone, and I’m okay with that,” she said.
Ini Edo, who was previously married to Nigerian-American businessman Philip Ehiagwina before their divorce in 2014, has shown immense strength and courage in her journey to becoming a mother. Her revelation has sparked widespread support from fans and fellow celebrities, with many praising her for opening up about such a deeply personal topic.
