Tiwa Savage: Singning Upcoming Artists  Isn’t Part Of My Plans, But A Music School

Tiwa Savage: Why I Won’t Sign Any Artist and How She Plans to Build Her Empire

Nigerian singer-songwriter, actress, and now budding mogul Tiwa Savage recently dropped a truth bomb that might surprise many: She has no plans to sign upcoming artists. Yes, you heard that right!

The ‘Somebody’s Son’ crooner wants to avoid the chaos of managing musicians, choosing instead to build an ecosystem where African artists can thrive independently.

During an interview with Forbes Africa, Savage candidly admitted, “Artistes are stressful. I could just sleep, and then I will wake up, and my artist is trending for something else.” Now, if that doesn’t paint a picture, I don’t know what does. Imagine snoozing off to sweet dreams of your next hit, only to wake up to your artist making headlines—for all the wrong reasons. Yikes!

But before you think Tiwa is closing the door on the next generation of artists, think again. Instead of signing them, she wants to nurture them through a music school where they can gain the knowledge and skills needed to sign with labels that can genuinely support them. It’s like saying, “I won’t give you fish, but I’ll teach you how to fish—and make hit songs while you’re at it!”

Tiwa also called on African artists to focus on building their own thriving music industry rather than constantly seeking validation abroad. “Why are we trying to break into another market? We should build our own to be the one others try to break into,” she declared. Essentially, she wants Africa to be the Beyoncé of music markets—where everyone wants to be a part of the show.

And it’s not just music on her mind. Savage, who dabbled in film production in 2024 as an executive producer on Water and Garri, is ready to enter her “mogul era.” She boldly declared, “I want to go into my mogul era—billionaire Tiwa Savage.” Because, why stop at being a global music star when you can also be a billionaire mogul, right?

Tiwa Savage’s vision is nothing short of inspiring. She’s not just talking about change; she’s building the infrastructure for it. She’s showing us that while everybody’s son may not find them, everybody’s dream can come true with the right tools and mindset. And if you ask me, billionaire Tiwa Savage sounds like a hit track already—chart-topping, no doubt!
