U-20 AFCON Quarter-Finals | Senegal vs Benin | What To Expect

It is the U-20 African Cup of Nations round of eight (quarter-final), the young Lions of Teranga who top Group A are up against the 3rd best team of Group C, Benin.

The Senegalese won all their group-stage matches, defeated Nigeria by a lone goal on the opening day, whip Mozambique 3-0 before trashing the hosts, Egypt by four goals to nothing.

The Senegalese are yet to concede any goal, which speaks volumes of how solid their backline is, and they have scored a total of eight goals, the highest any team has scored at the ongoing U-20 AFCON in Egypt.

Their opponents, Benin Republic have managed to score just one goal and conceded two in three matches after they draw 1-1 against the young Chipolopolo of Zambia, secured a goalless draw against Tunisia, and a 1-0 loss to Gambia in their final group game.

This is the first time both countries will be meeting at the U-20 level.

It is obvious that Benin are up against more attacking, clinical scorers and defensive-minded promising Senegalese team.

For Senegal, this match could be a walkover on paper, however, in football, anything can happen.

Benin will be more hungry to go all-out and the Senegalese who are yet to win the U-20 African Cup of nations trophy but have been runners-up on three occasions, are also at this tournament to make a statement.

It promises to be an exciting football match for fans’ delight across the two French-speaking nations and among football lovers across Africa.

The Cubs of Teranga have won seven of their last ten matches while Benin have only managed one victory in their last six outings.
