Fact-Check Before You Subscribe: NNPC Ltd. Disclaims Fake Recruitment Announcements for Port Harcourt Refining Company

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has issued a strong warning to the public to disregard a fraudulent recruitment announcement currently making rounds online.

According to the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye, there is no recruitment exercise underway specifically for the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC).

This clarification comes amidst the circulation of a recruitment link purportedly tied to the PHRC. The Company emphasised that the recruitment process announced last year, covering all of NNPC Ltd.’s subsidiaries, remains the sole legitimate exercise. Successful candidates from that process are now advancing to the interview stage following the Computer-Based Aptitude Test.

Beware of Fraudsters

NNPC Ltd. denounced the recruitment link as the creation of fraudsters, exploiting the recent revamp of the Port Harcourt Refinery to deceive unsuspecting individuals. “The purported recruitment link being circulated on various online platforms is the handiwork of fraudsters who are keen on taking advantage of the newly revamped Port Harcourt Refinery to fleece unsuspecting members of the public with a phantom recruitment announcement,” Soneye stated.

The Importance of Fact-Checking

Incidents like this underscore the critical importance of fact-checking before engaging with online publications or offers. As scammers continue to exploit digital platforms to spread misinformation, individuals must prioritize verifying the authenticity of any announcements, particularly those involving sensitive matters such as employment opportunities.

Here are some tips to protect yourself from falling victim to fake recruitment schemes:

  1. Verify Official Sources: Always cross-check recruitment announcements with the official website or verified social media channels of the concerned organization.
  2. Beware of Links: Avoid clicking on unverified links. Fraudulent links often contain subtle errors that can be easy to overlook.
  3. Look Out for Red Flags: Promises of guaranteed employment, requests for payment, or lack of official documentation are warning signs of scams.
  4. Seek Clarification: When in doubt, contact the organization directly through verified channels to confirm the legitimacy of the announcement.

NNPC Ltd.’s proactive clarification highlights its commitment to safeguarding the public from deceitful practices. Let this serve as a reminder to remain vigilant and informed in the digital age.
