Abuja, Nigeria – January 6, 2025 – Tragedy struck Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a suspected bomb explosion at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting an urgent response from security operatives.

The FCT Police Command, in a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the explosion and disclosed that the blast resulted in multiple casualties. Emergency responders, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, swiftly arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi.

Casualties and Investigation

Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) brought to the premises by three men from Katsina who had visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu.

Tragically, two of the suspects died on the school’s veranda while tampering with the explosive device. A third suspect, along with a female trader, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.

The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion as an IED attack after recovering remnants of the device. In light of these findings, Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.

In response to the incident, the police immediately cordoned off the area to prevent further risks and initiated a detailed forensic investigation. Victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
