Trump Demands End to ‘Political Witch Hunt’ as Sentencing in Hush Money Trial Approaches

Washington, D.C. — With his sentencing date fast approaching, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has called for an immediate halt to what he describes as the “political weaponization” of the American justice system.

Trump, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, January 10, has filed a motion to stay the proceedings in his hush money trial, citing legal precedents and constitutional protections.

Trump’s Legal Team Moves to Halt Sentencing

Trump’s spokesman and incoming White House Communications Director, Steven Cheung, confirmed the development in a statement to Fox Digital on Monday.

“Today, President Trump’s legal team moved to stop the unlawful sentencing in the Manhattan D.A.’s Witch Hunt,” Cheung said.

He further emphasized that the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on presidential immunity and New York’s state constitution should render the case against Trump null and void.

“The American People elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate that demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and all of the remaining Witch Hunts.”

Cheung added that Trump’s focus is now on unifying the country under his incoming administration and “making America great again.”

The Hush Money Trial: A Recap

The case centers around allegations that Trump falsified business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to former adult film star Stormy Daniels. The payment, made before the 2016 presidential election, was allegedly intended to silence claims of an affair between the two in 2006.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg pursued the case, securing 34 felony counts against Trump for falsifying documents to conceal the payment. Trump was convicted in May 2024.

Sentencing Date Draws Controversy

New York Judge Juan Merchan has set Trump’s sentencing date for Friday, January 10, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.—just 10 days before his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.

Trump Maintains Innocence

Throughout the case, Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, labeling the charges a “political witch hunt” orchestrated to damage his reputation and presidency.

His supporters argue that the trial is politically motivated, especially given its timing ahead of his second term in office.

What Happens Next?

Trump’s legal team is pressing for dismissal, relying on the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling and state constitutional protections. If the motion to stay the sentencing fails, Trump’s defense may appeal the decision in higher courts.

With tensions running high, all eyes are now on Judge Merchan’s ruling and whether Trump’s team can delay or overturn the sentencing.

Final Thoughts

As the countdown to January 10 continues, Trump’s case has reignited debates over the intersection of politics and justice in America.
