Tragedy in Ado-Ekiti: Policeman and Wife Kill Each Other in Machete Fight
A tragic domestic dispute turned deadly in the Ita Eku area of Igirigiri, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, as a couple lost their lives in a violent machete fight on Tuesday, February 20, 2025.
The deceased, Caleb, a police officer, and his wife, whose name is yet to be disclosed, were found in a pool of blood at their residence, where they lived with their four children. According to reports, the wife frequently accused her husband of infidelity, which allegedly fueled tensions between them.
Son Recounts the Night of the Tragedy
In a viral video shared by Daodu Sammy Gbenga on Thursday, one of the couple’s children, a 13-year-old boy, recounted the chilling events leading up to the incident.
He revealed that earlier that evening, there was no visible sign of conflict between his parents. They had played, prayed, and told stories together, giving the impression that all was well.
“My father returned home around 9 p.m. but refused to eat until my mother came back. When she arrived, they played together and later had family prayers before we all went to bed,” he said.
However, in the middle of the night, he was suddenly awakened by the sound of a cutlass.
“I quickly woke my sister up, and we tried to get into their room, but the door was locked. My sister ran outside, grabbed a big stone, and tried to break the door, but it wouldn’t open. Meanwhile, we could still hear our parents screaming at each other. So, we ran to the next house to get help,” he narrated.
By the time they returned with neighbors, silence had taken over the house. The boys who accompanied them forced the door open and found their parents lying in pools of blood. They were rushed to the hospital, but neither survived.
Speculations and Investigation
A resident in the area, who spoke anonymously, suggested that the fight may have been triggered by a gruesome act, alleging that the wife mutilated her husband, leading to a fatal retaliation.
The Ekiti State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, has confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
This heartbreaking event has sparked conversations on domestic violence, marital conflicts, and mental health, raising concerns about the hidden struggles within families.
